We are pleased to see that Mercedes emissions settlements have taken place in the US, with Daimler set to pay around $2.2bn to settle civil and environmental cases.
Although the US settlement will not have a direct impact on any pending UK litigation, it is pleasing to see the developments across the pond. Their justice system is usually much quicker which is why they are able to reach decisions faster, which we also saw in the VW ‘dieselgate’ scandal as well.
We hope that the UK actions will eventually follow suit, and it may be the case that owners here could receive even higher damages if the action settles. If you have yet to start your case, make sure to sign-up to join our No Win, No Fee action as soon as you can.
Mercedes emissions settlements in the US
We are pleased to see news of the Mercedes emissions settlements in the US. We have spoken to the media about the positive news and the fact that this ruling should act as a wakeup call for Daimler in the UK as well.
We firmly believe that, if it is established that Daimler has used technology that amounts to a “defeat device” in the UK, they should be held to account. Our emissions compensation action is designed to do just that, and with our No Win, No Fee legal representation, what have you got to lose?
Could you claim up to £96,000.00?
Mercedes emissions settlements could be based on important legislation called the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations (CPUT). Where this applies, you could be eligible to receive up to 100% of the purchase price of a vehicle bought.
We recently spoke to the media about this. Using official ‘on the road’ price data from Daimler, we found that the price range of affected vehicles could range from £23,000.00 to £96,000.00. If a court-ordered that any breach committed by Daimler, if this is found to be the case, is very serious, they could apply the 100% compensation formula.
You can read more about this in our recent article about CPUT and our media coverage here. Although Daimler denies any wrongdoing at this stage, we believe there are grounds to investigate cases and launch an action for compensation.
