Volkswagen reaches settlement deal for 3.0L Canadian vehicles

Volkswagen had previously agreed to settle a group action lawsuit with a number of Canadian owners for selling them cars fitted with the so-called “defeat devices”, but this had not included owners of 3.0-litre vehicles. Now, a settlement has been finally reached in what is an unsurprising victory given that Volkswagen had already paid Canada’s neighbours in the U.S. billions of dollars in settlements and pay-outs, despite ignoring Europe.

Although owners of 2.0 litre engine Volkswagen group vehicles in Canada had their settlements sorted out fairly quickly, those who owned 3.0-litre Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche diesel vehicles had yet to see a penny until now.

Welcome move for affected Canadian Volkswagen owners

Back in April 2017, a Canadian court approved a £2.1 billion settlement for 105,000 Canadians who bought or leased a 2.0 litre TDI engine car affected by the emissions scandal.

Now, Volkswagen has agreed to pay over £210 million to a class of around 20,000 Canadian drivers for 3.0-litre vehicles.

It’s a welcome move, although with U.K. owners still being refused compensation, it’s not helpful for the fight over here.

With a court set to approve the framework of a class action lawsuit for tens of thousands of drivers in the U.K. soon, it looks like we’re going to have to keep fighting them through the High Court of Justice until our clients get the compensation they deserve.

With our firm set to be a lead lawyer in the action, now is the time to claim if you have yet to join our group.

If you’ve yet to sign-up for a compensation claim as a victim of the ‘dieselgate’ scandal here in the U.K., please contact us as soon as you can.
