The Your Lawyers Mercedes emissions action has been launched for owners whose vehicles may be emitting far more dangerous NOx than they should be doing.
When news of the VW scandal broke in 2015 and we took thousands of cases forward, we suspected that they may not be the only ones who needed to be investigated. Around the world, several other carmakers have faced fines, penalties, criminal cases, and consumer legal actions. Now, Mercedes (Daimler) also stands accused of using technology that may affect vehicle NOx emissions.
We are investigating the issues and we are taking claims forward for owners now on a No Win, No Fee basis.
About the Your Lawyers Mercedes emissions action
The Your Lawyers Mercedes emissions compensation action that we’ve launched is for owners whose vehicles may be emitting far more dangerous NOx than they should be doing.
The 2015 VW Emissions Scandal brought to light the fact that some carmakers could cheat – and have been cheating – emissions regulations. So-called “defeat devices” that can be installed in vehicles can be used to manipulate vehicle emissions during testing but, outside test conditions, some vehicles have been emitting up to 40-times more dangerous pollutants.
We are investigating whether Mercedes (parent company Daimler) has been using technology that can amount to, or be defined as, a defeat device. If this is established, owners whose vehicles are affected could be entitled to claim damages. In some cases, claims could be for a percentage value of the initial purchase price, or it may be for the loss of residual values if this applies.
We will get to the bottom of whether Mercedes owners will be entitled to claim compensation. If they can, we expect a significant group action to be established in a similar way there has been one for the Volkswagen Emission Scandal.
About Your Lawyers
Your Lawyers pioneered some of the earliest action for owners affected by the Volkswagen Emissions Scandal way back in 2015. We were one of the first – if not, the first – law firms in England and Wales to formally represent clients for cases on a No Win, No Fee basis. We were also the first to initiate High Court proceedings in January 2016.
In 2018, Your Lawyers was appointed to the Steering Committee that’s responsible for the overall conduct of the action. Since then, we have worked with the other firms involved in the litigation for our clients’ cases to be progressed as part of the wider fight for justice.
We have represented thousands of clients for cases in over 50 different actions as a leading consumer action law firm operating in England and Wales. We strongly believe that carmakers should be held to account if they have been found to have been cheating important emissions regulations. NOx can be deadly to both human health and the environment, and there are good reasons as to why laws are designed to limit its output.
