About the $299.7m fine for FCA diesel emissions issues

The $299.7m fine for FCA diesel emissions issues has reportedly been ordered in the USA in relation to the company allegedly misrepresenting the emissions outputs for over 100,000 diesel vehicles sold in the US.

According to media reports, an investigation reportedly found that the automotive group FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) had misrepresented claims when marketing “clean eco diesel” vehicles with a tagline of “best-in-class” for fuel efficiency. It is understood that this has now been deemed as a misrepresentation which is why the $299.7m fine for FCA diesel emissions issues has been ordered.

Action against FCA in the UK

Whilst the $299.7m fine for FCA diesel emissions issues in the US looks to be another victory in the global fight for justice, this is an entirely separate matter to the action that is being taken against FCA in the UK.

We represent thousands of clients who are engaged in emissions claims for compensation against dozens of carmakers, and this includes brands under the FCA group. Whilst they continue to deny that they have done anything wrong here, we believe there is at least enough information and evidence for us to be able to be taking on the claims that we are, and pursuing our compensation action. If the allegations are proven that they have engaged in any form of cheating or misrepresentation behaviour here, we expect that we will be able to resolve claims by way of issuing compensation damages for anyone affected.

There are multiple ways in which a carmaker could be guilty of cheating emissions tests, from the use of so-called defeat device technology to simple misrepresentations. Some also stand accused of abusing so-called thermal windows. Whatever the method that may have been deployed, we are committed to fighting to get to the truth.
