We’re acting for thousands of victims here in the UK as we continue our action in the High Court of Justice. VW are refusing to pay out, so we’ll fight them all the way!

But there has been some encouraging news from mainland Europe, as a court in Valladolid has ruled in favour of a buyer involved in the ongoing emissions scandal. The Spanish Courts ordered VW to pay 5,000 Euros on top of a repair of the vehicle, which is great to hear.

We are actually working closely with European lawyers as we battle for justice against the German car giants.

Spanish courts

A Spanish court has ruled in favour of a VW owner, ordering VW to pay a sum of 5,000 Euros in damages. This encouraging decision, along with five other successful claims in the Spanish courts, may help to pave the way for even more successful claims throughout the whole of Europe.

The successful judgment was not an isolated case. A Spanish consumer organisation called Organisation of Consumers and Users (OCU) has invited affected vehicle owners to come forward and join a group action that now consists of more than 5,500 affected owners.

Causes and compensation

The owner of an Audi Q5 who purchased the vehicle three years ago sought compensation after the scandal emerged last year. There are several grounds as to why his claim may have been successful, which include VW’s alleged deception after advertising the vehicles to be “eco-friendly” and boasting their low-emissions amongst the industry standards.

On top of that, we must look at the financial damages in terms of accelerated depreciation, and the array of problems that are arising for vehicle owners who have had the recall.

An appeal?

It comes as no surprise that VW Spain is going to appeal the ruling.

Despite the blatancy of what they have done, the German automotive giants seem intent on defending actions being brought against them; save for the one in the U.S. where they are already negotiating deals.

An ’emotional’ VW

Following their recent launch of their electric vehicles where VW are trying to show their “emotional” side, we say that the only way their emotions could be taken seriously is to offer real compensation to their victims in the same way they have in the U.S.

They have done a great injustice to millions around the world, and we would be sending the wrong kinds of messages to these multinational wealthy giants by simply letting them get away with it.

Group action claim in the UK

We welcome the Spanish courts’ judgment, but we won’t be resting our cases until we have a firm order ruling in favour of the thousands of clients we act for here in the UK.

With 1.2 million affected vehicles in Britain, we’re taking forward one of the biggest group actions the world will ever see. We have already initiated court proceedings in the High Court of Justice as we continue to lead the fight for justice.
