A Mercedes-Benz class action style trial is reportedly underway in Germany over allegations from a consumer protection group that the carmaker has used technology that amounts to a defeat device.
If the trial succeeds, compensation could be owed to German owners and a precedent could be set in respect of further claims against the carmaker. As other vehicle manufacturers are doing, Mercedes-Benz strongly denies that it has done anything wrong and disputes the claims.
In England and Wales, we are representing claimants who are engaged in compensation action against Mercedes-Benz over allegations of technology that could amount to a defeat device. You can find out if you are eligible to join our compensation action by completing a few forms on our website here now.
Reports from Reuters confirmed that a Mercedes-Benz class action trial in Germany is underway. It is understood that a German consumer protection group, known as VZBZ, has alleged that Mercedes-Benz installed technology that could amount to defeat devices. The allegations say that the aim of the technology was to manipulate diesel emissions.
A trial is set to look at whether the carmaker intentionally deployed technology that could amount to a defeat device in order to cheat emissions testing. This is understood to involve some 50,000 models that could be a part of the lawsuit, with the carmaker disputing that they owe any compensation at all. This has been the case in many prosecutions and consumer actions across the globe.
Whilst this Mercedes-Benz class action trial is in Germany, we are representing thousands of individuals who are seeking justice here in England and Wales over similar allegations. Again, whilst the carmaker strongly denies that it has done anything wrong, we are investigating allegations that technology may have allegedly been deployed in UK models that could amount to a defeat device.
As such, we are representing anyone who owns or leases, or used to own or lease, a diesel Mercedes model that could be affected by the allegations. If it is established that technology has been deployed in vehicles that could amount to a defeat device, we consider that our clients are owed compensation.
At this stage, we are confident enough in the allegations that have been made that we are able to represent claimants on a No Win, No Fee basis. This means that we can write off our legal fees if the cases do not succeed, subject to the terms and conditions in place.
There may be a similar Mercedes-Benz class action launched here in the UK which could form into a Group Litigation Order (GLO) as we saw with the Volkswagen emissions cases. In the VW emissions action, the carmaker strongly denied that it had done anything wrong and refused to issue compensation, but it recently settled claims for tens of thousands of individuals in England Wales.
If you own or lease, or previously owned or leased, a diesel vehicle over the last decade or so then you could be eligible to sign-up for a No Win, No Fee emissions compensation claim now. It is quick and easy to find out if you are eligible to join one of our actions by completing a few forms on our website here now.
