It came to light in 2015 that Volkswagen had fitted 11 million of their vehicles worldwide with so-called “defeat devices” that could ensure they passed lawful emissions testing whilst polluting far more dangerous NOx in real world conditions.

We currently represent thousands of victims of the scandal here in the U.K.

From this, VW decided to perform a “software update” or as its known better the “fix” on affected cars, and assured the public that the software update was to put peoples’ minds at ease and did not admit to any wrongdoing. They also suggested the “fix” will not cause any issues for vehicles, yet this doesn’t seem to be the case…

VW asserted that the recall would not cause any adverse impact on vehicle performance. Many seemed content with the recall if it meant their car would continue to perform the same way, but this assertion appears to be inaccurate.

We’ve received a lot of complaints from our clients about a range of problems that have appeared after having the so-called “fix” applied.

These include:

  • Fuel economy, performance, power and efficiency reduced (complaints of vehicles feeling “sluggish”)
  • Clutch control feels different
  • Acceleration at cruising speeds not as good
  • Emissions light, glow plug light, and temperature gauges going haywire
  • EGR problems
  • DPF regenerations increased (which can reduce the life of the part)
  • Increased noise and smell from engine
  • Vehicles going in to “limp home mode”
  • Engine misfiring, smoking, and even stalling in some cases
  • Reduced torque at low revs
  • Engine remapping required
  • Roughness in the feel of the drive when it was previously smooth
  • Shuddering in the vehicle

However, when questioned about thousands of reported complaints, head of VW UK Paul Willis suggested that 65% of complaints were “subjective” and linked to issues that are nothing to do with the so-called “fix” applied.

If that’s the case, show us the evidence that proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that the so-called “fix” does not cause any issues at all.

We’re waiting…
