Current alleged emissions scandals

There are a few current alleged emissions scandals that have surfaced after Volkswagen’s ‘Dieselgate’.

Firstly, Mercedes stands accused of using ‘defeat device’ software, and a voluntary recall was issued involving 3 million diesel cars. The recall was related to an engine software update, and any recall involving software updates relating to engine management systems or emissions could mean that it is in relation to the use of defeat devices. This could make you eligible for an emissions claim if your vehicle has had any required software updates or has been a part of any recalls.

At present, Daimler strongly denies that they have done anything wrong and they dispute the allegations that have been made.

Other alleged emissions scandals include Nissan & Renault. At present, Nissan & Renault have also strongly refuted claims that they have used defeat devices in their vehicles, although independent testing has indicated that there is a cause for concern. The Department of Transport has indicated that, after independent testing, they found discrepancies between NOx emissions released during testing conditions and the amount released in real-world driving conditions.

Whether this means that emissions testing has been cheated or not remains to be confirmed, but we will get to the bottom of it.

Similarly, with Porsche, there is currently evidence to suggest the use of ‘defeat devices’ in their vehicles. Taking into account the fact that Porsche is part of the VW umbrella, we believe defeat devices could have been used in their vehicles and we continue to take new cases forward.

If you believe your vehicle has been affected by a software update, or that it could be involved in an emissions scandal, you can start your emissions compensation claim with us today here.

The use of ‘defeat devices’ is extremely dangerous as it can allow vehicles to emit illegal levels of toxic gasses into the environment. The toxic gas – NOx, or Nitrogen Oxide – can have dangerous and long-lasting effects on human health, and it can damage the environment. This is why it is vital that we hold car manufacturers to account for breaking the EU regulations of legal emissions levels.
