It’s July 2018, which means the new emissions laws have come into force to stop future Volkswagen style emissions scandals.
The new legislation, at the very least, acts as a far better deterrent to prevent future emissions scandals.
The new emissions laws have been brought in to specifically crack down on emissions cheats like Volkswagen. To make sure they’re punished for their historic cheating, we’re a part of the Steering Committee of law firms taking legal action against VW for over 60,000 victims in England and Wales.
The fact that the UK is facing being taken to the top European Court over air pollution should act as catalyst for punishing emissions cheaters like Volkswagen.
The UK is looking at fines that could run into the millions of pounds and has been referred to the European Court of Justice by the European Commission over failures to maintain vital pollution targets.
The Commission has reportedly issued “letters of formal notice” which may then lead to formal action against the UK.
The recent court ruling that can allow German towns and cities to ban diesel vehicles was another example that attitudes are shifting as people are more aware of what automakers like Volkswagen are responsible for.
VW used cheat devices in around 11 million of their vehicles worldwide, and they did it (we assume) to allow their vehicles to pass emissions testing yet pollute more lethal NOx.
In our view, they put profits before people and they deserve to be punished. This latest buyback scheme in Germany, although limited, is one way they can help consumers affected by German law changes, and they should apply it universally for all consumers affected by the Emissions Scandal!

With more than half of UK children said to be living in areas with illegal levels of air pollution, it’s clear why Volkswagen must be punished for their cheat device scandal.
When they decided to intentionally fit cheat devices into vehicles so they could pass emission testing but pollute more dangerous NOx outside of test conditions, innocent people have suffered. Air quality has been underestimated as a result of cheat devices skewing the figures, and people are subjected to greater harm than expected.

When the news broke that one of the biggest companies on the planet had been cheating emissions testing, the world was shocked. Not only were we left surprised as to how they’d managed to get away with such abhorrent behaviour for so long, but we were also angered at why they would do such a thing in the first place.
Prior to the emissions scandal, VW scored very highly in terms of climate strategy, ecological sustainability, compliance and anti-corruption. When the truth came out about what they’d been doing, their fall from grace was sharp.
With blood on their hands due to Nox pollution from “dirty diesels” and increasing inner-city environmental damage, not to mention experiments on monkeys, a simple question really needs answering: “Hey, VW! Where’s your Corporate Social Responsibility?”

Chancellor Philip Hammond launched a two-pronged attack on diesel cars to tackle the emissions problem in the U.K. Since the Volkswagen emissions scandal came to light, scientists have found that the excessive levels of NOx being polluted is contributing to premature deaths and exacerbating breathing and heart problems.
Hammond wants to introduce a U.K. version of the Euro 6, called the Real Driving Emissions Step 2 (RDE2), by April 2019. Any diesel vehicles that don’t conform may face increased vehicle excise duty (VED) and benefit-in-kind (BIK) tax.
