Car emissions are undoubtedly harmful. Ever since the Volkswagen emissions scandal broke out, more people are paying attention to just how much exhaust emissions are being churned into the air we breathe.
Multiple studies have found that increasing car emissions is contributing to air pollution, and consequently can harm us. Now, another study has found that emissions may also be attacking our bones by affecting bone density and increasing the risks of osteoporosis; otherwise known as brittle bones.

Audi has announced a recall of almost 5,000 of their cars in Europe over emissions software issues. A total of 4,997 A8 model cars with 4.2 litre V8 diesel engines are affected by the recall. Retailing new at around £64,000, over 3,500 of the recalled vehicles are located in Germany where the coalition government has reportedly agreed to reduce emissions by at least 85% by 2050.
The affected vehicles will join other Audi vehicles fitted with the so-called “defeat device” software to be recalled for a technical “fix”.

On 20th September 2015, Volkswagen engineers and top managers reportedly discussed the extent of the emissions cheating before publicly admitting they’d installed the so-called “defeat device” software into their U.S. vehicles. The announcement saw the company’s share prices plummet and billions of pounds wiped off its market value.
The impact was then further exacerbated when Volkswagen made another announcement two days later confirming the full extent of Volkswagen group vehicles across the world that were affected. Apparently, this delay in reporting the full extent of the scandal may land VW in further trouble…

The High Court has set the next hearing for the end of March 2018 and crucial decisions will likely be made as to the direction of the VW Emission Litigation for victims in England and Wales.
Our legal team represent thousands of victims of the scandal here in the U.K., and we were the first to issue claims in the High Court in January 2016. Since we launched our action, a number of other firms eventually followed suit, but we remain confident we will be appointed as a Lead Solicitor in the action.
If you have yet to join our VW group action, we’re urging people to make their decision about claiming ASAP given the next important hearing is set in the next few months. You don’t want to miss any court-imposed deadlines.

A federal court judge in Australia has reportedly condemned Volkswagen for giving what they deemed as insufficient answers as to why they decided to install so-called “defeat devices” into cars before selling them all over the world.
The Judge also wanted company executives to expect to be called into Court to offer an explanation.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and law firms are currently suing Volkswagen for selling thousands of cars containing the alleged devices, with some 100,000 owners bringing claims against the major automaker in Australia.

A court-appointed settlement advisor in Washington has confirmed that Fiat-Chrysler has engaged in settlement talks with claimant lawyers over yet another car emissions scandal that has plagued the motor industry these past two years.
The lawyers represent owners of Fiat-Chrysler cars that are reportedly fitted with certain software that can manipulate vehicle emissions and can affect the difference between emissions levels identified in testing and real-world conditions; similar to the ongoing Volkswagen Emissions Scandal.
Although Fiat-Chrysler deny they have done anything intentionally wrong, lawyers have brought claims in the U.S. that are looking likely to settle in favour of the drivers.

According to French newspaper Le Monde, the major car company jointly owned by Peugeot, a Chinese holding company, and the French state is being investigated for allegedly cheating emissions for diesel vehicles.
The motor group sells Peugeot, Citroen, DS automobiles, Opel and Vauxhall vehicles across the globe, bar the U.S., Canada and India.
It’s reportedly suspected that up to two million of their vehicles may be fitted with illegal software that can manipulate emissions outputs. The story screams of similarities to that of the VW Emissions Scandal, where 11 million diesel vehicles worldwide were fitted with software that falls within the definition of a so-called “defeat device”.

Since the VW emissions scandal erupted in September 2015, and since then there’s been rumours that other auto-makers have been up to similar activities. Allegations were made against the 7th largest auto maker, Fiat-Chrysler, a day after VW agreed to pay around £3.3 billion in civil and criminal penalties for its wrongdoing.
Despite the carmaker denying any wrongdoing, authorities have been investigating their vehicles and have found software that can reportedly affect emissions readouts. As such, it’s something we’re keeping a very close eye on, as there are some remarkable similarities between the VW emissions scandal and the probes in to Fiat-Chrysler.

When VW chairman Hans Dieter Poetsch defended the decision not to publish the elusive Jones Day report, we weren’t happy; and we weren’t surprised
Poetsch stated that he defends the decision not to publish to Jones Day report and suggested that the law firm’s findings were included in the guilty plea agreed with U.S. authorities. If that’s the case, why withhold the report? If VW’s stance is that the information included in the plea and / or the summary released is enough to grasp the concept of the report, why not release the full report? What possible reason could there be to not publish it, unless they were hiding something?

People don’t always realise the huge impact that some cars are having on the environment and our health. Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) is produced in the emissions of diesel vehicles, and it’s very damaging to human health and the environment. NOx can get trapped in built-up areas and contributes to a number of health problems.
NOx is the pollutant at the heart of the VW emissions scandal. It’s NOx that VW’s so-called “defeat device” is essentially allowing to be polluted way more than the official testing figures suggested.
As a dangerous pollutant, it needs to be heavily regulated, but thanks to VW, 11 million vehicles worldwide have been polluting more NOx than they were supposed to…

The monumental fallout from the VW emissions scandal left us with serious questions about the lack of care shown by big corporations for our health and our environment. In the absence of any real government punishment, we’re also left wondering whether the State cares either.
So, what about the legal system? Do the judges and lawyers care? Well, part and parcel of what we’re doing here with our action is because we care, and we know there are judges who feel the same.
Earlier this year, a High Court ruling denied the U.K. government’s attempts to delay the publishing of their anti-air-pollution strategy. An official spokesperson for Theresa May claimed they will not be appealing the decision; but why delay it in the first place? This is really important stuff!

Environmental researchers have reportedly calculated the number of premature deaths possibly resulting from higher levels of dangerous emissions being produced by diesel vehicles in Europe.
The figure has been released as 4,560; that’s 4,560 innocent people that have reportedly had their lives cut short because of excessive pollution being churned into the air we breathe by cars; like the NOx produced from diesel cars at the centre of the VW emissions scandal.
It does not make for good reading…
