News reports have covered allegations that Toyota emissions data has reportedly been “falsified” in Japan, which is another story that fits as part of the global emissions issues and scandals.
Whilst this is not a matter that is directly related to any Toyota emissions compensation action that we are pursuing here in the UK, we commonly cover stories from around the world that are in relation to the wider emissions issues and scandals. In this matter, it is understood that a particular corporate culture reportedly resulted in engineers falsifying information in relation to emissions.
You can start the process to pursue an emissions legal case here now – No Win, No Fee.
According to Reuters, there are allegations of “falsified” Toyota emissions data from around 2003 that has been blamed on engineers feeling unable to challenge superiors in Japan. It is reported that a committee was set up this year after admissions from an associate company called Hino Motors Ltd that Toyota emissions data had been “falsified”.
The presidents of Hino reportedly issued an apology and acknowledged that management had taken responsibility over what had happened. It is understood that “falsified” Toyota emissions data could date back as far as October 2003, which is much further back than an original time frame that was previously suggested of round 2016.
The issue has resulted in a recall of tens of thousands of vehicles made from April 2017, but now an additional 20,900 vehicles are also reportedly set to be recalled.
This news story that we have covered that has been reported by Reuters is a separate matter to the Toyota emissions compensation action that is ongoing here in the UK. Following the original “Dieselgate” scandal that first came to light in 2015, most carmakers are now facing allegations that they may have engaged in behaviour that could amount to cheating emissions regulations.
As with other carmakers, Toyota strongly denies that it has done anything wrong. We believe that there is at least enough evidence for us to be able to take forward Toyota emissions compensation claims to investigate whether any allegations of wrongdoing can be proven or not.
If it is established that Toyota has engaged in any form of behaviour that could cheat emissions regulations, anyone who owns or leases (or previously owned or leased) an affected vehicle could be entitled to claim compensation now.
The Car Emissions Lawyers represent thousands of people claiming emissions compensation against dozens of carmakers here in the UK.
