Jaguar Land Rover CO2 Emissions Issues

Separately to the diesel emissions matters, the extensive Jaguar Land Rover CO2 emissions recall was said to affect 44,535 vehicles. Excessive Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions were reportedly identified by the Vehicle Certification Agency during routine testing. Test results indicated that the models affected fail to consistently achieve the certified levels of CO2.

Jaguar Land Rover reported the findings to the DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency), for a suitable fix to be agreed and implemented. The European Commission's alert system reportedly said that the affected vehicles "may emit excessive levels of CO2 and may not conform with the certified condition".

Jaguar and Land Rover owners could be contacted for repairs and software updates to be carried out by authorised dealers and garages. The fix is said to be offered free-of-charge, but it is understood that changes could have an impact on the performance of the vehicles, and some models may require new tyres to be fitted.

How Will Vehicles Affected By The Jaguar Land Rover CO2 Emissions Recall or Diesel Issues Be Affected?

It is not yet known precisely how the vehicles involved in the Jaguar Land Rover CO2 emissions recall and diesel emissions issues may be affected. We understand that Jaguar Land Rover said that owners may experience a difference in the performance of their vehicle in some cases, and petrol owners may find the stop/start function operating at lower vehicle temperatures.

It is a known problem that high-performance vehicles can produce more dangerous emissions like NOx and CO2. If repairs and software updates lead to less NOx or CO2 being produced, it may be that vehicles could suffer from changes such as reduced acceleration.

In a statement, Jaguar Lands Rover said:

“Affected vehicles are being rectified to ensure the correct CO2 performance is dependably achieved. The modifications made to affected vehicles will be made free of charge and every effort will be made to minimise inconvenience to the customer during the short time required for the work to be carried out.”

This statement did not, however, address specific concerns that some owners may have in relation to any impact that a recall may have on their vehicle. In addition to the above statement, we understand that the manufacturer acknowledged that some owners may experience differences.

If it is the case that a recall will adversely affect models, compensation may be owed to potentially tens of thousands of owners. Another key issue in any recall is whether car tax will be affected.
